Lidia Gălăbova - Лидия Гълёбова - is a native of Plovdiv (*1954) and spent her childhood and adolescence in the Rhodope Mountains, located in the southern part of the country on the Bulgarian-Greek border, in the mountain range where, according to legend, the mythical Orpheus was born. L. Gălăbova started writing poetry during the period of Gorbachev's perestroika, and since the end of totalitarianism she has published regularly and continuously in Bulgarian newspapers and magazines (Literaturen vestnik, Literaturen forum, Plamăk, Septemvri, Novo slovo, Vek 21, Standart, etc.). Under the former regime, however, she often faced censorship, and manuscripts were repeatedly returned to her because of "ideologically objectionable" parts. Since 2000, Lidia Gălăbova has lived in Prague as an independent journalist and actively participates in the cultural life of the Bulgarian minority in the Czech Republic.
