Romanian poet Radu Sergiu Ruba was born on October 14, 1954 in Ardud. At the age of eleven, he completely lost his sight. In the years 1974-1978 he studied French and English philology at the University of Bucharest. In the years 1978-1990 he worked as a teacher of French, Romanian language and literature as a specialized inspector at the Ministry of Education and Science responsible for the subsystem of special education for the visually impaired. In 2006, he was elected president of the Association of the Blind in Romania.
